free like bigfoot

22JUN26

on mountains & motorbikes

motorbikes & mountains
they are the truth
kind of like fountains
fountains of youth

give you wings
to be free on
like the springs
of Ponce de Leon

they are an escape
keeping you free
like a big ape
peeping from a tree

it can't be denied
they may be expensive
just make sure you ride
safe & defensive

Enjoy your Monday. I hope this will be a great week for you. Do not remain aloof from the goof.

bigfoot & the mountains

17JUN26

& me

the mountains are calling
out my name
there is no stalling
they stake their claim

they light a flame
watch it burn
like a horse tamed
make my return

wear their bridle
wherever I roam
the pull is tidal
pulling me home

in the in between
here & there
the big & unseen
hear & stare

on we go
right or wrong
we both know
where we belong

Enjoy your Wednesday. Do not remain aloof from the goof.

The title to today’s poem is a nod to a famous bluegrass song by the Osborne Brothers in 1972. The line in the song is ” Ancient home of the Creek and the Cherokee and me.” The song’s title is Georgia Pineywoods. Most of you are probably more familiar with their song Rocky Top. But Georgia Pineywoods seems to dive deeper into the struggle to transition from “chickens cacklin’ out in the pen” to modern life.

Both Rocky Top and Georgia Piney Woods were written by Bourdleaux and Felice Bryant. They wrote many other hits. They had met when she was working as an elevator operator. They eloped 5 days after meeting. She recognized him immediately from a dream that she had when she was 8 years old. She said she had “looked for him forever.” The Everly Brothers hit All I Have To Do Is Dream is based on her experience.(Wikipedia)

Poems

hay on a hill

23JUL25

in no hurry

the mountains rise
to meet the clouds
with open eyes
and heads unbowed

they were born
a long time ago
they have been worn
by water and wind flow

strong they stand
in no hurry
they are the land
of the proud and blurry

every where they go
know no fetters
and if you don't know
that's even better

as they pass
thru the veil
time to roll the grass
into round bales

just be prepared
as you go
if you are aware
they will know

We flew all over a hill top yesterday. We filmed two tractors mowing hay in the morning. And then we filmed one tractor tethering the mowed grass in the afternoon. That is a process where they kind of fluff it up so it will dry faster. This morning I am meeting my bother up there again. He is going to bush hog a part of the field that he did not mow. I guess that is done if the terrain or vegetation is too rough to mow and bale. I always tell my brother that he has forgotten more about cattle and farming than I will ever know.

We viewed some of the video clips on the laptop last night. Some of it is very pretty. This video may be end up being little longer. We still have to film the raking and baling in the next day or two. I better wrap this up so I can get set up on the hill top on time. I’m pretty sure no farmer wants to wait on his camera man. And that is probably especially true if it is your brother : )

I hope you have a great day. We’re smiling a lot here and hope you are as well.

n2 the mountains

in an illusion

I live in a box
that I adore
it has good locks
on all of its doors

it has a roof
beneath the skies
does it hide the truth
from my eyes

streets tree lined
the forest bulldozed
ordering my mind
to stay closed

have I been taught
the whole solution
or am I caught
in an illusion

further out I climb
ever more I learn
one of these times
never to return

the truth that hides
I can dimly see
as it resides
out in the trees

Today will be a short post. I am contemplating traveling to Virginia for the 4th of July. If I go I will take the drone. I will probably not do any actual filming. But I will do several trial runs on places that I might want to film in the very near future. A lot of the terrain in the mountains is straight up and down. And it will take some time to find spots where I can launch and land the drone. At some point after I shoot and edit the locations they will make their way into the Drone Flyover section of the menu.

I am not sure what the schedule of posts will be on the trip. During family get togethers it becomes more difficult to maintain a productive schedule. So there may or may not be any more posts over the weekend. If I do miss any posts they should resume early next week.

Enjoy your time with family and friends. Smile even if it is a challenge : )
