might be the best
let's just suppose
there is more to find
better not to close
the door in your mind
Wide Open Spaces
the Dixie Chicks
meet new faces
learn new tricks
throw away the maps
and the GPS
following the thunder claps
might be the best
It's a New Day
the morning sun
as Springsteen would say
we're Born to Run
Morning Has Broken
the dew glistens
bigfoot has mind spoken
will you listen
the Allman Brothers howl
on about Dreams
"the owls
are not what they seem"
I may be guilty of littering this poem with too many pop culture references. For that I apologize. For the readers that might not be familiar with some of them I will attempt to list them.
Wide Open Spaces is a song by the Dixie Chicks.
It’s a New Day is a line from Feeling Good by Nina Simone.
Born To Run is a historically famous song by none other than the “BOSS” Bruce Springsteen.
Morning Has Broken is a song by Cat Stevens. I think he now goes by Yusuf Islam. I just learned that this song was originally written by Eleanor Farjeon in 1931 as a Hymn. (Wikipedia). This song has a unique memory for me. My freshman year in college I had a psychology class that started at 8AM. The professor would always have this song playing in the classroom as we arrived and the class started. It was like he was providing this peaceful space in this wild and crazy experience.
Dreams is a song by the Allman Brother’s Band. Their music has this other world quality to it a lot of the time. I have read that they wrote a lot of their music sitting in the Rose Hill Cemetery between tombstones overlooking the Ocmulgee River. I am pretty sure that the name Elizabeth Reed was taken off of one of the tombstones. Some of the band members are buried there today.
“the owls are not what they seem” is a famous line from David Lynch’s TV show Twin Peaks. You can google it. There is a lot of information about it on the internet. All of Lynch’s work definitely has an other world quality running through it. MUCH RESPECT.
And as far as an other world feeling goes the thunder claps have always kind of seemed like a phone ringing from somewhere else.
Enjoy your Thursday.
NOTE: The blog has a menu with more video content. On a computer it is at the top of the screen. On a tablet or mobile device it is the 3 stacked slashes to the right of the word ASTRA. Enjoy the blog.
