bigfoot humor is food for thought

11AUG25

24 hour diner

we are a diner
our mood is sublime
usually a 16 liner
of a goofy rhyme

have your mind freed
help you know a tree
get you to read
some goofy poetry

we'll improve your mood
it is the truth
but instead of food
we're offering goof

it's not really exciting
and we know it
to read the writings
of a mediocre poet

we are like a book
with a goofy style
just here to crook
your lips into a smile

you will be wise
have most of the information
as we keep you apprised
of the bigfoot situation

A few people have told me that either they or someone that they know is having a difficult time finding the drone flyover videos in the blog. So we will take a little time to go over navigating the menu in the blog.

If you are on a desktop or laptop there will be 3 main headings at the top of the page. Those 3 headings are Home, Drop Down Menu and Blog Posts. If you click on the arrow beside the Drop Down Menu a menu will drop down. The Drone Flyover Videos section will be at the bottom of the listing. Click on that and it will give you a listing of the videos. There are only 4 videos. There may be 5 by the end of the day. Just click on the video that you want to watch and it will take you to the video on you tube.

If you are on a mobile device there should be 3 slashes to the right of the word ASTRA. Tap those three slashes and it will give you a vertical listing of the same 3 headings. Tap the arrow beside Drop Down Menu and it will give you a listing of topics. They should be Manifesto, Hawaii, Music (non Hawaiian), Bigfoot and Drone Flyover Videos. Tap Drone Flyover Videos and you will be able to tap which ever video you intend to view.

I do not use a tablet. But I have viewed the blog on other people’s iPads and if I remember correctly the tablet layout is more similar to the mobile device than to the desktop/laptop configuration.

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post there is a new sunrise video that I uploaded on you tube on Saturday.

The blog is only a few months old. We just did out 100th post last week. And the drone operation or our Aviation Wing as I am tempted to call it when the poet takes over is even newer. We really haven’t flown that many missions yet. As time goes on we should get better at doing this.

But make no mistake. We have no intention of losing any of the GOOF!

Poems

bigfoot on a caper

10AUG25

the good ones soar

a poem is a caper
you wait to pull
out of the vapor
often already full

all of its words
are from on high
a flock of birds
listen to them fly

the good ones soar
it's how they roll
open the door
& glimpse the soul

they make you strong
your mind more reliable
help it think more along
the lines of the Bible

open the window
once and for all
let you then go
& see something tall

with his palms
against some bark
like the Psalms
they can light the dark

can lift your life
let you set sail
& stay away from Barney Fife
and his jail

but you may notice
in a good strong neighborhood
that even an Otis
can have it kind of good

so open your book
make your own art
& take the time to look
into your own heart

Today is the last day of the Hocking Hills Bigfoot Festival. I did not attend. But I did get one new drone flyover video up on the blog yesterday. I had mentioned in the Ernest T. Bass post from a couple of days ago that I was planning on doing a word play on Hemingway in one of my brother’s farm videos. And yesterday it was unfurled in all of its goofy glory. If you don’t like goofy then you should probably hit the exit now because that is the flag that we fly under. In the words of Kurt Cobain “All Apologies.”

Enjoy your Sunday! Have some lunch! And smile a whole bunch : )

Poems

“head & shoulders” that are immense

09AUG25

maybe a little dandruff

many a bottle
you know it's true
bigfoot as a model
move the shampoo

people would beg
just to see
an arm or a leg
sticking out from a tree

be clever & spike it
with some spritz
never seen anything like it
since Mark Spitz

a model so big
athletic and tough
with no wig
maybe a little dandruff

he could throw a boulder
over a fence
these 'head & shoulders"
would be immense

I could not cope
it would be insanity
because I kind of hope
that bigfoot has no vanity

Hocking Hills Bigfoot Festival is still going on today and tomorrow. I am not going. I am trying to get some work done on my brother’s videos today. The video clips have a lot of sky in them so they are fun to look at and work with. I am also going to try to get a handle on how to chop existing videos into you tube shorts.

I hope that you find something fun to work on or participate in on this Saturday. And I hope that you sail thru it with a smile on your face.

Ernest T. Bass & bigfoot

08AUG25

the smartest being on the planet

do not assume
bigfoot looks like an ape
if he had a costume
it would have a cape

as the information grows
and we take off the lid
it seems we do not know
what we think we did

we walk the same ground
see the same stars
bigfoot doesn't seem to be bound
by the same rules that we are

seem to be discovering
more than meets the eye
what is that hovering
in the night sky

search the info we've got
have to carefully scan it
what if we're not
the smartest being on the planet

I am not going to Hocking Hills Bigfoot Festival. I still need to put together the 200 plus photos and videos that I took of people mostly in bigfoot t-shirts at Red River Gorge Bigfoot Fest 2025 into a you tube slide show. They are now in a link in the Bigfoot section of the drop down menu.

I am intending to do a play on words involving Ernest Hemingway on one of my brother’s farm videos that I am working on. When I was googling Hemingway I was wonderfully surprised when another literary giant’s name popped up. The loquacious Ernest T. Bass from the Andy Griffith Show once again made me smile. I loved every episode of Mayberry. It is even mentioned in our Manifesto. But the episodes with the poetic ramblings and rock throws of Mr. Bass were truly something special.

I am pretty sure that my writing style is more Bass than Hemingway. And I have often told people that my poetry is probably much more influenced by Ernest T. Bass than by Shakespeare. But I will have to admit that I have always been blown away by the fact that the writer was born with that last name. There seems to be so much meaning and symbolism wrapped up in that name. It conjures up images of the strength and the power of the pen and the ability to move and craft with it.

Over the years I have been surprised when Ernest T. Bass’s name would pop up in conversations. It happened a couple of weeks ago when we were having a conversation on the street about beagles. One of the men that I was speaking with recounted with great pride how that one of his family’s beagles had been named Ernest T. Bass.

As a matter of fact Ernest T. and bigfoot share a few attributes. They both posses incredible strength. They are both able to seemingly disappear. They are both known for their rock throwing. They both seem to occasionally emerge from the mountains. They are both incredibly entertaining. They both seem to exist in the land of legends.

(As I was proofreading this post after I had already published it I had a thought that made me giggle. I wonder how many people will read this and think to themselves “He left out the fact that they are both fictional characters.”)

I have read before about how many people count the episodes of Mayberry with Ernest T. Bass in them as their favorites. It is hard to believe that he was in only 5 episodes.

I guess it just goes to show that you should never underestimate the charm and lingering effects of a man from the mountains. And in the words of Smokey Robinson and Al Cleveland bigfoot seconds that emotion.

Poems

the 100th post

06AUG25

a poem 4 the 100th post

live in a castle
made of thin air
suffer no hassle
refuse to despair

some call it a pile
point their finger tips
we call it a smile
thru our crooked lips

we hear the toll
of bigfoot's bell
calling all souls
to come set sail

we make rhymes
that fly the skies
take the good times
and let them fly

need some proof
here is a clue
nothing but goof
in all we do

I want to be sure to remind you about the Hocking Hills Bigfoot Festival that starts tomorrow and runs thru Sunday. I am still not sure if I am going to go or not. I still have a lot of video editing in front of me. Last night I put a video of my brother putting up hay in the holler where I grew up on the blog in the drone flyover section of the drop down menu. I shot a lot of footage over 4 days last week. So there will probably be more videos to follow. I am just not sure when I will get them up on the blog.

Back on 07FEB25 a good friend sent me a text suggesting that I should start a blog. After I read the text I googled “what is a blog?” That started an adventure with me almost constantly asking Google “how do you…?” A lot of times I would be attempting to do something on one laptop while googling on the other one to figure out how to do it. And then sometimes I would be googling on a cell phone to try and figure out how to do what Google had just told me to do.

Since I have started the blog I have started a lot of days knowing that I had to do something that I didn’t know how to do. After a while that is a comforting feeling because a lot of the time it is a struggle just to figure out what you have to do. I guess this is a round about way of saying that this is all a learning process for me. Those of you who have been reading the blog all along probably already know this.

The blog is better than it was a few months ago and hopefully it will be even better in the times to come. There is a tremendous amount of fun in finding out about and learning new things. I guess it is a type of exploration. The blog is a lot of fun for me. And I hope that it is fun for you. If it is not then you really owe it to yourself to end the suffering and find something that is fun for you.

In a way the blog is…

a kind of book
a bell that tolls
to take a look
into our own souls

& I look forward to traveling thru it with you as bigfoot watches from out in the trees and probably wonders why we goof off so much…

Poems

Hocking Hills Bigfoot Festival August 7-10

05AUG25

it’s like hunting snipe

we're a friendly tribe
just trying to connect
bigfoot is throwing a vibe
it is a big reject

refuses to uncloak
it's like hunting snipe
he's refusing to smoke
our peace pipe

think we should
pack up the wigwam
he's sayin out of his woods
or it'll be like Vietnam

we're on our way
we're no fools
as we rush to obey
the big guys rules

the car unlock
and away tear
before bigfoot's rocks
get in the air

there is no time
for ukulele strumming
want to avoid writing a rhyme
about bigfoot rocks incoming

I put the Hocking Hills Bigfoot Festival in the title of this post. It is a huge bigfoot festival. Not sure yet if I I am going. And if I do go I am probably not going to stay for 4 days. Thom Powell is speaking on Saturday. He wrote an excellent book on bigfoot titled The Locals. He is a retired high school science teacher. He tells a very interesting story about his journey from being someone who made fun of people who search for bigfoot to actually becoming a researcher. He also gives a fascinating account of slowly realizing that he was the one being studied and toyed with.

Yesterday I got one drone video up on the blog. It is a flyover of my hometown Nickelsville, Virginia. I actually flew and filmed it on 07JUL25. So it took me about a month to get it up. I have several other videos in the pipeline. There are some from April and May that I need to get on the blog. And I have a list of projects that I am planning to shoot. Some I can shoot right away. One I have to wait for a creek to go down. It is too high on the banks and too muddy. When I was reconning the sight last week it was uncomfortable standing next to that much brown water rushing by me in a low lying area. I was happy to climb in the car and drive back up to higher ground and get on the highway. I also have to try to predict when the leaves on the trees will turn into their different colors. But it seems like that I am always going to have too much to do when it comes to the work flow on the videos. And I guess that is a good problem to have as long as they continue to make their way onto the blog.

You can find the new drone flyover video at the bottom of the drop down menu. If you are on a mobile device there will be be 3 slashes in the top right hand corner. If you tap that it should give you a listing with the drop down menu. I hope that you enjoy the video. I shot it on my 5th flight with the drone so I’m sure that there is lots of room for improvement : ). Perhaps my mistakes will make you smile!

Poems

bigfoot is a guessing game

03AUG25

about bigfoot guess

dump some stress
float in the clouds
about bigfoot guess
here it is allowed

we have no axe
or anything to grind
not that many facts
come to our minds

we offer no proof
more like hoping
that a giant all aloof
is out there loping

maybe give it a try
and when you're done
you will understand why
it is so much fun

it is not work
or even a race
just mind that smirk
that's across your face

Enjoy your Sunday. : )

Poems

out in the forest

02AUG25

what do I keep

a leaf is spinning
all about
is belief winning
or am I in doubt

all else pales
to the pull
look to my sails
are they full

water is deep
that we tread
what do I keep
in my head

the waves roll
they foam and bubble
does peace save my soul
or does it roam with trouble

does the answer hide
in semantics there unseen
or does it reside
gigantic in the in between

is the truth porus
is its home the soul
or out in the forest
does it roam and roll

ability to cloak
stuff and fill its file
we know it can provoke
and cause a smile

a baby in a stall
its blanket in tatters
maybe that's all
that really matters

I was tempted to title this post “video editing software is just as mysterious as bigfoot” but somehow it just didn’t have the right ring to it. Yesterday I purchased the paid version of the free editing software that I have been using. At this point I have moved the projects from the free software to the more powerful version. In the long term this should improve and speed up my project workflow. The impact will probably be a slow down as I try to learn how to navigate some of the new features in this software in the short term. This morning I will begin installing and trying to navigate the audio plug in that will help me more easily match the audio to the video. I have three new drone fly over videos that should be pretty close to being published on the blog.

I hope that you enjoy your Saturday!

Poems

back in the neighborhood

01AUG25

into the dark

sit and write
make a mark
shine a light
into the dark

it is a stark test
as the pen rolls
into the darkness
of my own soul

cold is the cave
shadows unknown
the soul I save
could be my own

can't make a decision
on bigfoot and the elf
as I seek vision
into myself

I am back in the neighborhood this morning. So it is off to run errands and stock the refrigerator. I shot a lot of footage in the holler of my brother’s farming activities. So I still have al lot of editing to do. But three videos should be almost done. I just need to upgrade some of the software and learn how to use it. We will see how long that takes.

I hope that you enjoy your Friday!

Poems

bigfoot agrees

31JUL25

making a new story

the setting sun burns
the moon glows
getting ready to return
getting ready to go

bread was broken
a cooking show
words were spoken
of long ago

family oratory
as good as gold
making a new story
to be told

it was definitely good
somewhere in the trees
it is understood
that bigfoot agrees

I am leaving the holler this morning . I am beginning to load the car. I am trying to decide if it is more of a Douglass MacArthur ” I shall return” or a Terminator “I’ll be back” situation. I guess I will have to go with the MacArthur one. It seems a lot less scary.

I hope you enjoy your Thursday!
