bee stings
the wings flap
two rings
in a box wrap

lifting hands
to embrace
shifting sands
the winds place

the birds chirp
early 'round seven
on earth
as it is in heaven

heard in the trees 
song of the swift
birds & the bees
strong is their lift

big & strong
as a bulldozer
of their song
bigfoot is the composer

night & day
the sun & the moon
their flight stays
always in tune

On Saturday I attended the Red River Gorge Bigfoot Fest in Stanton KY. I had a great time. I took a bunch of pictures that I am working on putting into a YouTube slideshow.

I use both Google Photos and Apple Cloud for syncing and storing photos. When I downloaded the photos into the Apple Photos app they came in as duplicates and sometimes triplicates. So in the future I am probably going to unsync from both of those services and store photos on an external hard drive. This seems like the best plan to smooth out the workflow.

The 1st thing that I noticed when I pulled in was that there was a $20 parking fee if you wanted to park in the school parking lot. Last year it was free. There were also several yards and a church parking lot offering parking for various prices or donations.

The crowd seemed to be larger than last year. And they got there earlier in the day. They had moved the picnic tables from the parking lot into the area shaded by the trees. There also seemed to be more food trucks this year than last.

This years speakers were Charlie Raymond, Ken Gerhard, Lyle Blackburn, Adam Davies, Russell Acord, Dr. Mireya Mayor, and Turtleman & Swampman. I also noticed that at most of the speakers’ tables there was a sign that advertised selfies for $10. That may have been the case last year but I don’t remember seeing those signs last year.

Everybody seemed to be having a “big” time. There were lots of smiles and a lot of bigfoot shirts. The festival and crowd seemed bigger than last year. And I am guessing that next year will be even bigger. BE THERE : )

A big thank you to the Kentucky Bigfoot Research Organization and the Town of Stanton Tourism Office for all off the work that they did to pull this thing off.

beneath the ether

a bird is near
but not in hand
a word is a spear
if you understand

a spear to shake
with wit & grace
maybe to make
world a better place 

a pen and paper
are all you need
to pull off a caper
at high speed

from the ether they flow
beating like a drum
all you have to know
is that they come

thru the thatched roof
listen for their call
their truth catch
as they fall

they have been put
thru your hands
even on bigfoot
the truth lands

in the afterglow

on the day after
chocolate weight gain
love and laughter

rolls best on the tracks

a railroad trestle
between two hills
the soul is a vessel
waiting to be filled

let your brain 
rest and relax
that's how the train
rolls best on the tracks

open the empty spaces
set your mind free
there are plenty of places
it needs to see

life is full of meaning 
go find the key
it could be leaning
from behind a tree

Last year I attended the Pope Lick Goatman Festival in Louisvile. As I left the festival I saw the rail road trestle. I think that is the trestle where people have claimed to have seen a goatman. There are so many cryptid stories. It is hard to keep just the bigfoot ones straightened out in your mind. And when I think about it is there such a thing as a “straight” bigfoot story? Any way that is probably part of the inspiration for today’s poem.

The other rail road trestle that I see more often is the one at Speers Ferry in Virginia. It is also called the Copper Creek Viaduct. It is outside of Duffield VA on Route 58. I hope to shoot a drone/motorcycle/kayak video of it this summer. That is a lot of moving parts. We’ll see if we are able to pull it off. As far as I know no goatmen have been seen on that one. : )

all dark and cold

to be one who supposes
to know everything
it's no bed of roses
the birds don't sing

dark is the floor 
no candle burning
with a closed door 
to anymore learning

to wear conceit
like a glove
is anything more sweet
than self love

a lonely train
all dark and cold
with the brain 
in a blindfold

it sounds like a rough
slow ship to fly
we all do it just enough
to let bigfoot slip by

I am planning on redoing the Menu. I will be adding a section that lists the links and sources that we use the most. If you have read the blog for very long you probably can guess that A Flash of Beauty You Tube channel will probably be at the top of the list. We are subscribers and paying members to their channel.

To me A Flash of Beauty is kind of what it would be like if David Lynch got to direct the 60’s TV program Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom with Marlin Perkins and Jim. Marlin did the narrating while Jim wrestled the anaconda in the river. They are professional filmmakers who do a great job of bringing a lot of the mystery and wonder of bigfoot and what we perceive as our reality to the many screens that videos are viewed on these days. Even if you set aside the fascinating dialogue and subject matter you will find yourself rewinding their videos just to take in some of the breathtakingly beautiful camera work for a second time. One of the perks of being a paying member is that they give you access to the short videos that they make from the drone footage that was shot that they didn’t use in prior videos. And they usually film in some pretty beautiful locations.

filled with fear
said they saw spaceships

out in the heavy lumber
they have disappeared

as the mystery grows

A Flash of Beauty You Tube Channel just dropped a new video with Davide Paulides a couple of days ago. He is a former police detective that has written several books on bigfoot and people going missing in our National Parks. I have read 2 of his books. They are The Hoopa Project & Tribal Bigfoot. These 2 books are from him spending time on Indian reservations and interviewing people and collecting their stories and eyewitness accounts. One of the things you will hear over and over again when you first start looking into bigfoot is that the Native Americans know more about bigfoot than most of the rest of us. You hear statements all the time along the lines of “anytime they tell you anything about bigfoot listen very carefully.”

In this video Mr. Paulides does a very good job of talking about the 2 sides of the fence in the bigfoot world. One side believes that bigfoot is simply a wild animal hiding out in the woods and the other side leans more into the paranormal. The group in the paranormal side believe that bigfoot is capable of a lot of stuff that is pretty much unbelievable. He also does a good job of describing how that most people start off in the 1st group often referred to as the Flesh & Blood Hypothesis group and then end up migrating into the 2nd group who are often referred to as the Paranormal or Woo group.

I enjoy watching Mr. Paulides bring his facts based investigative skills to the world of bigfoot and try to make sense out of something that almost always defies any type of logic or analysis.

As you read more stories and watch more videos about bigfoot you will hear stories that will make you think “I’ve heard that before.” At 21:46 in the above video Mr. Paulides tells a story about a bigfoot stopping and looking a great distance at someone hidden. This story reminded me of a similar story that Don Neal had told. I am providing a link to that blog post below. The Samurai Chatter line refers to the Sierra Sounds. These are recordings that were made in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the 1970’s. The Flash of Beauty You Tube Channel and film team has a new documentary coming out soon. It is called Voices in the Wilderness. It will focus on Ron Morehead and the other individuals that were up there experiencing and recording this phenomenon way back then. I will provide a link to the official trailer for the film below. And I will be informing you several times when the film is officially released.

This should be my last full day in the holler. I got the motorcycle insured and inspected yesterday. Hopefully by the time warm weather rolls around we will have the small fleet of motorcycles, the GoPro, and the drone ready to start a new series of videos in Scott County, Virginia where I grew up. Hopefully I will figure out how to edit it all and get it up on the blog and You Tube by that time.
