Red River Gorge Bigfoot Fest

May 31,2025

Here is the link for information.(Link removed after event.)

night in the day

a shadow
is the night
knows that slow
hides in sight

as it sneaks
thru the day
does not speak
it hides away

it is still
remains and lurks
the canvas it fills
like a painter works

it is where
mind rarely sees
like the blur
there in the trees

Try to take some time to look at the information on the Bigfoot Festival at Red River Gorge. It may be educational to just look at the list of speakers and list of activities. The line up of speakers is impressive.

The Kentucky Bigfoot Research Organization has been around for 3 decades. Its founder and president is Charles or Charlie Raymond. He has kind of been the ambassador for all things bigfoot in Kentucky for some time. He is also the author of Bluegrass Bigfoot. This is the 1st bigfoot book I ever read. I have read a lot more books since then. But that is still the book I would recommend that you start with.

Who better to write a book introducing you to the world of bigfoot than someone who has travelled all over the state and country doing it for thirty years. It’s a good first step into the world that this blog draws inspiration from. I still find myself going back to look something up in it from time to time. After you have read several books on the subject it will probably become a little more difficult to remember exactly which book a story was in. Or if it was in an internet podcast or video. At that point you are probably getting pretty well versed on the subject.

Hope this is a great day for you!

I am linking a You Tube Short that I shot at the 2025 Pope Lick Goatman Festival. In it Charlie talks about his new book.

bigfoot @ Flag Rock

willing to bet
seemed like an hour
just to get
to the tower

no sign of sasquatch
on a road paved
cloaked he watched
& probably waved

on the way to the top
coming down was bound
to make one more stop

all was good
almost celebrating
there he stood
patiently waiting

Last week I did a post on my visit to Norton Virginia to visit the Wood Booger Grill on 1MAY25. The grill was part 1 of my visit. The Wood Booger Statue on the mountain was part 2. I asked for directions in the restaurant and then had my phone to direct me just to make sure. The Wood Booger Grill is very close to the entrance where you begin to climb High Knob. I wasn’t really sure where the statue was so I drove all the way to the observation tower on the top. The statue is actually at a point called Flag Rock on the way up. But I wanted to see the observation tower anyway.

I took several photos of the statue and the plaques. You should be able to enlarge and read the plaque that declares Norton a Sasquatch/Bigfoot/Wood Booger sanctuary. It mentions that the TV show “Finding Bigfoot” filmed a show in Norton in 2011. It also mentions the bigfoot sightings in the area. When I checked the BFRO website data base there was no mention of Wise County sightings. But that in no way means there have been no sightings there.

The drive up and down the mountain was absolutely beautiful. It is a long and curvy climb to the top on glass smooth asphalt. There are a few places with restrooms on the way. When you go back down and exit High Knob there are a few different routes you can take right away. I took the wrong one one and added at least 10 miles to my trip because a couple of turns puts you on a 4 lane highway immediately. So you may want to check your phone before you exit High Knob.

I remember reading about a mother and child seeing a bigfoot in a lake in the High Knob area sometime in the past. I could not find that specific report when I was putting together this post. There is a reservoir on the mountain that I didn’t go to. So if you ever go there you may want to plan on trying to see that. I would suggest on planning on the trip to the Grill, the statue, the reservoir and the observation tower taking up most of the day. Of course I got stuck in an hour of traffic on the freeway because of a semi wreck. So your trip may go quicker. But it is always good not to be too rushed. Time is a luxury.

I have included a link to photos of the statue and the observation or lookout tower. There are 2 photos that I saw in a hardware store window on my drive into Norton. After I got turned around and was coming back out of town I crossed the street and took a couple of pictures.

Enjoy the pictures and your weekend.

Bigfoot

bigfoot goes to Wood Booger Grill

providers of hope

bigfoot is a concept
is in the mind
he has not left
just cannot find

riding the seas
Noah in his ark
hiding in same trees
bigfoot in the dark

trees are a haven
between the two
and the raven
both use that too

as Rome picks a Pope
and tries to decide
maybe it is hope
that these two provide

On 5/1/25 I visited Wood Booger Grill in Norton Virginia. I took several pictures of anything that related to bigfoot. The menu, food & service were excellent. And they were very gracious in allowing me to roam all over the place and snap pictures to my hearts content. They also gave me great directions to the Wood Booger Statue on the mountain.

You should be able to access the pictures here.

I would highly recommend this bigfoot themed restaurant to anyone. And if you have any interest or fascination with bigfoot it should be a no brainer. Just the drive to Norton is very beautiful. I was stuck in traffic for about an hour on Route 58 because of a semi accident. But even as I sat there I could not help but notice how beautiful the mountains are.

Coming soon the statue on the mountain.

Last week I was out of town. So I guess as I start posting again it is a good time to talk about the purpose of this blog. We are basically looking at the phenomena of bigfoot and all of the hoopla that surrounds him. We find it highly fascinating, amusing & entertaining. We are not trying to convince or convert any one. We are not trying to change whatever your opinion may be. Our goal is to report, inform & hopefully amuse & entertain. You can decide for yourself what you believe. We are still working on that on our end.

Obviously bigfoot is an area of interest for me. Another area of interest is the ukulele. In some ways they are similar. Both seem to bring a smile to peoples faces with just the mention of their name. And I guess if I could have one hope & dream for this blog it would be that that would be our business. We want to be in the business of SMILES : )

The title of today’s post is Flash of Beauty: Bigfoot 101. I have mentioned this website several times in the blog already. Both of their documentaries are excellent. And as I have mentioned before A Flash of Beauty 2: Paranormal Bigfoot has a very beautiful 5 minute beginning. Actually all of their camera work is almost beyond top notch. But their individual interviews with individuals are just as compelling. If you google them on you tube there will be a list of videos vertically down the page then ever so often there will be a horizontal row of short videos. It is usually labeled Latest Shorts from a Flash of Beauty: Bigfoot Revealed. On your mobile phone they will usually be labeled Latest posts from Flash of Beauty: Bigfoot Revealed. These short videos might be a good place to begin or continue your journey into the wild & wacky world of bigfoot…

as you do I hope you smile

I probably should have saved this poem until a little closer to the Kentucky Derby. As I was typing it out and thinking about it one thing that I thought about was the many bigfoot sightings that I have read about & listened to & the reports of the speed of bigfoot. Usually people are just as astonished at the speed as they are the immense size.

I remember reading or listening to a Tennessee couple’s account that said they were pulling into their driveway at night when they saw one crossing their yard into the wood line. They said that it moved so fast that they were afraid to leave the vehicle & go into the house. It had moved so rapidly across the yard they were sure that it could come back before they could make it into the house.

This type of fear is reported over & over again in sightings. It seems to point to Bigfoot having no desire to inflict harm on humans. Tim Baker in his Flash of Beauty interview did caution that you never should intentionally try to harm one. He stated that he had been involved in many investigations where people had been harmed and that it was almost always because they had shot or intentionally tried to harm one.

& as I end today’s blog post I want to give a shout out to everybody reading this thinking. “Just how are you supposed to try to harm something that doesn’t exist?” : )
