Bad & Nationwide

bigfoot has no horses
stored & shut in the barn
but their forces
are more than just a yarn

with no saddles
they still ride
not just around Seattle
but nationwide

they're on a mission
they do not reveal
there is no beautician
at the wheel

like a blues groove
mean, romantic & terrific
they all move
between the Atlantic & Pacific

This poem loosely references the ZZ Top song “I’m Bad I’m Nationwide.” You can google it and give it a listen if you are unfamiliar with them. Be prepared for long beards and lots of blues : )

masters of their domain

the hay bale
for the cold freeze
& set sail
on your soul's seas

tend the cows
the whole herd
learn what Heaven allows
from the Word

even the tall
out in the trees
answer Its call
to be free

turn from disaster
& all the pain
become the master 
of your own domain

clean the barn
the fear of loss pitch
spin a yarn
into a beautiful cross stitch

your drum bang
give it your all
& go & hang
it on the wall

I have been spending more time in the holler and on the farm lately. It is beginning to show up here a little bit more. This poem has some nods to Heaven and the Bible. And it also has a nod to Seinfeld. Those of you who have watched the “Master Of My Domain” episode know that it is not exactly biblical or religious. The official title of that episode is “The Contest.”
