Poems

your hands will shake

21OCT25

more than Barney Fife

bigfoot is not Old Yeller
you may encounter animosity
he is not a bank teller
behind a counter for your curiosity

he has a big heart
and a soul with wings it's true
but you are not a part
of his list of things to do

the woods are his home
you are just passing thru
it's good when you're in Rome
to pay attention to what they do

it may be too much of a thrill
listen to the stories from the past
when it all goes down hill
all way too fast

he is a bull rusher
has done it many times before
a loud rude usher
all the way to your car door

your hands will shake
more than Barney Fife
you're playing for high stakes
when you run for your life

The first line of the poem is a shout out to all of the dog lovers out there. I have noticed a lot of people who love dogs at the bigfoot festivals. Some people actually bring their dogs. One of the slide shows that I am getting ready to put on the blog and You Tube has a pic with a dog wearing a bigfoot scarf. And a lot of people have on dog t shirts. So there seems to be some overlap between those people who like dogs and those who like bigfoot. And it is only fair to point out that at this point that there are many more people who believe in the existence of dogs than believe in the existence of bigfoot : )

There are many stories of people and their dogs having encounters with bigfoot. It is almost always an adversarial relationship. Usually the dogs are more frightened than their owners. They seem to know something “big” is up or out and about. And the stories where the dogs are frightened end much better than the ones where the dog is brave.

In the Scott Taylor interview video with A Flash of Beauty he tells the story about a family that had a group of bigfoot living on their property. They got a puppy and the puppy met the bigfoot while it was young. The people said that it would disappear for hours at a time almost every day and come home smelling like bigfoot. So maybe bigfoot doesn’t hate dogs as much as some of the stories make it seem.

(You can watch the Scott Taylor video in the Bigfoot Videos section of the Drop Down Menu in this blog.)

My brother has a story about the time when they were keeping his wife’s grandmother and she accidentally hit her medical alert and the paramedics came up thru an unlocked basement door going thru the dark house with flashlights. It is a hilarious story.

Bigfoot may have similar stories about people running thru his living space in the middle of the night acting all crazy. And that may help explain why he isn’t as patient with the dogs some of the time. But if it were my dog I would keep them leashed and close.

When it comes time to preserve and protect your best friend should be pretty high on the list. Because after a lifetime of dealing with them I am pretty sure you’re high on their list.

And as always my favorite readers are the ones who are reading this saying to themselves “Thanks for the imaginary warning.”

But this blog does fly the bigfoot flag so every once in a while we ride the crazy train. I have said before that bigfoot can make you smile even if you do not believe in him. And it is also true that “crazy” can make you smile sometimes too. I guess it is like bigfoot and the dogs. It depends on the situation.

I hope that your situations today are ones that make you smile a lot.
