kind of like a church
that is for many

it is a concept
gets in your bones
it may be better left
in the unknown

TV shows galore
we surf & swim
he probably knows more
about us than we him

none of it computes
just gets more confusing
but you cannot refute
he always sets to amusing

out in the pines
the wind stirred
some of the lines
they got blurred

thru he strode
& walked away
nothing was owed
to Marvin Gaye

discern was employed
knew what he was doing
his way to avoid
all of the suing

as always he refused
any type of revealing
didn't want to be accused
of any kind of stealing

This poem will probably need some explaining. In 2018 there was a settlement of a lawsuit between Marvin Gaye’s family and Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams over the song “Blurred Lines.” Gaye’s family had contended that the two had borrowed too heavily from Marvin Gaye’s 1977 hit “Got to Give It Up.” The jury ruled in favor of the Gaye family.

I have been spending more time in the holler and on the farm lately. It is beginning to show up here a little bit more. This poem has some nods to Heaven and the Bible. And it also has a nod to Seinfeld. Those of you who have watched the “Master Of My Domain” episode know that it is not exactly biblical or religious. The official title of that episode is “The Contest.”
