behind the curtain

bigfoot has a ceiling
it is called a sky
does he deal with his feelings
does he ask why

rarely parts the  curtain
he's rarely revealing
is he barely certain
of what he is barely feeling

does he keep a tight grip
on all of his emotions
is the switch ready to flip
into an all out explosion

does he grow annoyed
as others run their tongues
is he a student of Freud
or maybe Carl Jung

they say he can read minds
walk thru and take a tour
what does he find
when he reads yours

spinnin’ the sticks

bigfoot travels the land
like a big Hummer
if he were in a band
he'd be the drummer

just because you don't see
doesn't mean it's not true
he'd be bigger than Tommy Lee
in Motley Crue

he's hard to sight
when he's standing still
wearing tighter tights
than Vince Neil

the midnight oil burns
as bigfoot roams
knowing he'll always return
to "Home Sweet Home"

Years ago I was stationed at Fort Sill Oklahoma for the Field Artillery Basic Officers Course. That was back when MTV was popular. It was back when they actually played music videos. At 5pm they would play a list of the most heavily requested videos. The video “Home Sweet Home” by Motley Crue won it for what seemed like forever. I just googled it and it was the most requested video for over 3 months. Because of this MTV came up with the “Crue Rule” which meant that videos could only be eligible to win for 30 days. Hope this explains where some of the imagery for the poem comes from.

There is probably an Allman Brothers Influence in the last stanza from the song “Melissa.” “But back home he’ll always run To sweet Melissa.”

on we search
what have we got
is bigfoot the church
of what is not

is it just an illusion 
the wind in our sails
just enough confusion
to keep us on the trail

a bridge too far
an angry wife
back to the car
run for your life

don't mind the run
as bigfoot expels
you can't find this much fun
anywhere else

If you’ve read this blog very much you have probably figured out that we are much more into goofing off than actually searching for bigfoot. To those that do search for bigfoot. MUCH RESPECT. But for a cultural phenomenon and his sheer entertainment value bigfoot surveys all of pop culture from a lofty perch. Fun and craziness are the currency that his world trades in. You should open an account.

that the night wrote

bigfoot in the weeds
living in the fringe
he has no need
of the big syringe

reads the inscription
that the night wrote
forgoes the prescription 
of the white coats

has a man's face 
is not an ape
hospital is just another place
for him to escape

our chemical cure
he always resists
not even sure
if he exists

of all of our headaches

no nurse practitioners
or medical attention receives
his hair conditioner
is the wind and the leaves

no hustle bustle
in hospital spaces
he puts his muscles
through their paces

stays on the roll
glimpses and peeps
peace in his soul
when he sleeps

somehow we all fit

it's all loose knit
held by a vibe
somehow we all fit
in the bigfoot tribe

not that much proof
do we desire
just a lot of goof
is what we require

the bond is strong
with insanity we flirt
happy just as long 
as he appears on a t-shirt

what do they mean 
"he's just inside of our heads"
when they've all seen
him dyed in threads

sightings are various
actually increasing the passion
and outright hilarious
in a casual fashion

I will be traveling to visit family over the weekend. I am not sure what the Wi-Fi, writing space and time situation will be. So I will not be posting again until Monday 20APR26. Enjoy your weekend.

rings of Saturn
do they turn
does bigfoot have patterns
that we can learn

bigfoot often blurs
and then he escapes
the things that were 
rewind the tapes

leave the pier
many are the boats
old stories hear
and compare notes

a fleet of ships
a forest of masts
the switch flip
relive the past

fun to catch up
past has a pull
learn that your cup
it is full

turn the page
like a shooting star
helps you to guage
where you are

shooting stars guide you
read their fall
let them inside you
heed their call

This poem has a reflective bend to it. I ran into a high school classmate at Food City in Weber City VA yesterday. We spent some time catching up and reliving the good old days. I am pretty sure a lot of that experience made its way into today’s lines.

he is transcendent

bigfoot takes a pass
at using a bank 
he's always got gas
in the tank 

there is a hitch
for around the curve
he can flip a switch
for more in reserve

for a lot of the rules
he is transcendent
in this school
he is the superintendent 

no money owed
here or beyond the vail
rides on the road 
and on the trail

lots of hair
no need to trim it
it wouldn't be fair
to give him a speed limit
