Poems

what is to come

01SEP25

will soon be past

build your friends
into mighty ships
ride the winds
mind your lips

waves are strong
over the deep
journey is long
your friends keep

what is to come
will soon be past
the beat of the drum
is just that fast

your wit employ
as the miles you race
let all enjoy
the smile on your face

bigfoot approves
and they understand
as they all move
together in bands

the ship steer
in the winds steady
they will appear
when we are ready

the wind blows
and plays forever free
and they know
that may never be

Enjoy your Labor Day!

Poems

to make you better

31AUG25

than you were found

words and letters
in a book bound
to make you better
than you were found

words to pledge
a ship to board
wield the double edge
word that is a sword

life is a trip
to beyond the veil
faith is the ship
wind in its sails

it is most hard
because he's out of sight
bigfoot is like the Coast Guard
but not orange and white

your wind swept friend
that lives in a rhyme
is ready to step in
at any given time

will grow to liking
more and more
like the Vikings
and their oars

Enjoy your Sunday and your Labor Day weekend. Stay on the lookout for the opportunity to brighten someone’s day. Be kind of like that guy that is at the top of the ship’s mast looking out toward the horizon : )

Poems

white clouds

30AUG25

make no sound

white clouds
make no sound
hang proud
above the ground

stop and stare
listen to their song
will not be there
very long

words rearrange
make this rhyme
most things change
all of the time

fill this report
with humor & mirth
our time is short
on this earth

bigfoot is a ghost
stays out of the way
says to make the most
of every single day

learn our power
and how to pray
and smell the flowers
along the way

the morning dew
birds and the bees
wait for you
out in the trees

Enjoy this Saturday and your Labor Day weekend!

Poems

we all sail

29AUG25

under the same mast

beauty exists
in the in-between
it persists
even when unseen

not in cuffs
it is free
it is enough
just to be

our hearts know
it is there
all art glows
it always dares

seeds are sewn
put into our souls
freed and grown
where the bigfoot roll

we even know
its song inside
as we go
along for the ride

thru the veil
at long last
we all sail
under the same mast

Enjoy your Friday. Labor Day is around the corner!

Poems

it all requires

28AUG25

a sense of humor

the battle is fought
in our minds
the rhymes are caught
and on paper lined

our spirits are lifted
answering the call
of a cryptid
that's ten feet tall

like a Broadway play
try to raise the curtain
seems there is no way
to be absolutely certain

that will have to do
at least for now
do not expect him to
come out and take a bow

if you need
something exciting
go and read
about more sightings

as we inquire
and study the rumors
it all requires
a sense of humor

I am in a rush this morning. I am out the door for a medical appointment.

as you work your style
on this day
remember to smirk & smile
along the way

words to the wise

Poems

if you go too far

27AUG25

there could be panic

bigfoot is a car
needs no mechanic
if you go too far
there could be panic

you might find
the ride is plush
if you don't mind
having to hide in the brush

in the garage
not his style
makes his lodge
out in the wild

it'll be a good plan
if he can avoid collision
as good as he can
all of our vision

stands really tall
out in the woods
might answer your call
for something really good

a tasty treat
kettle ready to pour
his big feet
peddle to the floor

what's in store
no one knows it
open that door
can you close it

if you have to fill
up that big guy
expect a grocery bill
that's sky high

I hope you have a good day. I hope your car is reliable and that your groceries are nutritious and taste good to you!

Poems

it is a school

26AUG25

that never ends

amusement for our brain
helps it unlatch
sure to entertain
impossible to catch

the subject of debate
words cruel and blunt
out there he waits
to watch us hunt

studied on the android
studied on the iPhone
just to be toyed
with by the unknown

is he our brother
or is he the devil
more like on another
dimensional level

it is a school
that never ends
playing the fool
for our big friends

but during recess
every once in a while
we think about this mess
with a big smile

I am trying to get some loose ends wrapped up so I can return to Virginia and shoot some more drone footage of the scenery in Appalachia. I am making a list of some places that I want to fly the bird. It is so mountainous and steep with curvy roads that have overgrown overhanging trees that it will be difficult to figure out where I can launch the drone from. So on a lot of the missions I will probably recon one day and fly and shoot on another. A lot of things that make the area so beautiful also combine to make getting the bird in the air and being able to see it more difficult. And the FAA requires that you maintain visual contact with the drone at all times.

The light for shooting footage is usually best at sunrise and about the first hour after. And in that area that is a particularly hazardous time to drive because of all of the deer crossing the road. These days the deer are very plentiful. A couple of years ago at a family reunion I remember a cousin of mine saying that in the 70’s if you killed a deer they would put your picture in the county paper. These days you see deer all over the place.

The blog is still very much a work in progress. I am contemplating adding a bigfoot book review section and some type of listing of all of the posts that contain links to bigfoot videos to the drop down menu. In constructing the blog I have to keep an eye on what all the additions do to the speed and responsiveness of the blog when you click on it or items in it on your devices.

I hope you have a great day!

Poems

bigfoot abides

25AUG25

hears its song

wisdom's wages
the ether prepares
the empty pages
do not depair

the water is swift
that we wade
know wisdom's gift
will be made

the river is wide
the current strong
bigfoot abides
and hears its song

hears it call
to the sea
they're not all
behind a tree

all is green
along the shore
he has seen
it all before

they are tall
they are free
and all
means you and me

a different bus
on separate sides
it's because of us
that they hide

I hope your bus is on time. And that it is full of smiling faces. And I hope that yours is the brightest smile on it. Make sure your week gets off to a good start or at least one that you can recover from : )

Poems

and they watch

24AUG25

for the whole week

find what you left
and peace of mind
as the church steps
you now climb

take a swim
in the river
as the holy hymn
the choir delivers

your soul is free
forever more
the lunchroom used to be
a drug store

our tongue we tame
eat fish there
remember the name
Dennie Dishner

a peaceful scene
with spiritual power
no glowing screen
for one hour

Paul in Rome
in a lurch
some at home
some at church

the gospel gavel
we still get
as it travels
on the internet

at the tree line stare
as the wind blows
is bigfoot there
who knows

the leaves he tramples
approves of the scoffers
he may need a better example
than we usually offer

the sasquatches
n2 our souls they peek
and they watch
for the whole week

kind of good news
we have room for improvement
don't blow a fuse
but I think I saw movement

I usually try to keep it short on Sunday morning. But this morning there are couple of lines that I will go over for those who have haven’t been to Nickelsville or for those who were not there in the 60’s and 70’s. The 1st Baptist Church now owns the building that used to be the drugstore. And they use it for a family life center. The name of our pharmacist was Dennie Dishner.

I remember in the 60’s it seemed like every motorcycle rider that you saw on TV was up to no good. I remember seeing Dennie Dishner riding his Honda 90 motorcycle thru the town of Nickelsville in his white pharmacist coat. I remember thinking to myself as a little boy. I guess that they are not all thugs : )

Enjoy your Sunday. Make someone smile!

Poems

like Salvador Dali

23AUG25

dropping his spoon

my blurred lenses
should I clean
like Mercedes-Benzes
into the unseen

like Muhammad Ali
a poetic tune
like Salvador Dali
dropping his spoon

let it rip
quote the sky
like the Louisvile Lip
float like a butterfly

lack of focus
lets the ideas flow
it's hocus pocus
the magic show

take a peep
at the lady of the lake
somewhere between sleep
and being awake

take your turn
in the surreal
and maybe learn
if bigfoot is real

get up to speed
read between the lines
what is really freed
is your mind

keep exploring
use your wings
don't be boring
"& know everything"

work your style
in a new space
with a smile
on your face

find the new wrinkle
that lets you fly
get that twinkle
in your eye

it will be sweet
it will be true
as you meet
the real you

The title of this post and the poem (a term I use loosely : )) refers to Salvador Dali’s habit of falling asleep in a chair or sofa holding a metal spoon over a metal plate. As soon as he dozed off enough to drop the spoon he would jump up and begin to paint. He was trying to access that world in between being asleep and being awake where creativity seems to live. A lot of successful and creative people have used short naps to fuel their creativity and their success.

There seems to be a feeling among a lot of writers that they do not so much write as receive something that is being given to them. It is kind of like they are a vessel that is being filled. I think that is probably the reason that so many great poems and songs have been written on pieces of scrap paper and napkins.

To me it is kind of like magic in a way. I think each of us have magic in us that we can perform every day. Maybe it is making someone smile or giggle or just being nice and polite to someone. It will make you feel better than it does them. It is kind of like when they say that prayer helps the person doing the praying more than the person being prayed for.

We all have a top hat and a rabbit to go in it. We just need to find them and remember to take them with us. They will take it from there.

So feed the rabbit. Brush off the hat. And off you go!
