hocus pocus

Poems

bigfoot thinks

23AUG26

about others

bigfoot is blurry
like the ghost & elf
not one to worry
about himself

is it too cold
or too hot
or how much gold
he has got

has it made
as he roams about
able to fade
in & out

he's never caught
as he soars
with his thoughts
on distant shores

try his hocus pocus
a new sensation
try not to focus
on your own situation

Enjoy your Sunday. Do not remain aloof from the goof.

Poems

like Salvador Dali

23AUG25

dropping his spoon

my blurred lenses
should I clean
like Mercedes-Benzes
into the unseen

like Muhammad Ali
a poetic tune
like Salvador Dali
dropping his spoon

let it rip
quote the sky
like the Louisvile Lip
float like a butterfly

lack of focus
lets the ideas flow
it's hocus pocus
the magic show

take a peep
at the lady of the lake
somewhere between sleep
and being awake

take your turn
in the surreal
and maybe learn
if bigfoot is real

get up to speed
read between the lines
what is really freed
is your mind

keep exploring
use your wings
don't be boring
"& know everything"

work your style
in a new space
with a smile
on your face

find the new wrinkle
that lets you fly
get that twinkle
in your eye

it will be sweet
it will be true
as you meet
the real you

The title of this post and the poem (a term I use loosely : )) refers to Salvador Dali’s habit of falling asleep in a chair or sofa holding a metal spoon over a metal plate. As soon as he dozed off enough to drop the spoon he would jump up and begin to paint. He was trying to access that world in between being asleep and being awake where creativity seems to live. A lot of successful and creative people have used short naps to fuel their creativity and their success.

There seems to be a feeling among a lot of writers that they do not so much write as receive something that is being given to them. It is kind of like they are a vessel that is being filled. I think that is probably the reason that so many great poems and songs have been written on pieces of scrap paper and napkins.

To me it is kind of like magic in a way. I think each of us have magic in us that we can perform every day. Maybe it is making someone smile or giggle or just being nice and polite to someone. It will make you feel better than it does them. It is kind of like when they say that prayer helps the person doing the praying more than the person being prayed for.

We all have a top hat and a rabbit to go in it. We just need to find them and remember to take them with us. They will take it from there.

So feed the rabbit. Brush off the hat. And off you go!
