Drive On Airborne

Poems

join the wise

28MAR26

as they fly

life is hard
learn to roll
a greeting card
for the soul

each day arise
with your hopes high
join the wise
as they fly

don't get disappointed
don't get rattled
you're already anointed
for the battle

it is the Midas touch
burn it into your brain
if your not owed much
everything is gain

listen to the speech about
making hard work a habit
then you can reach out
by yourself and grab it

think this way
your happiness it frees
that's what they say
out in the trees

Many years ago I attended Airborne or Jump School at what was then Ft. Benning Georgia . It was a 3 week course. The 3rd week was pretty much jumping out of airplanes. The 1st 2 weeks were spent preparing us to do that. Most of the instruction seemed to be focused on how to hit the ground. We were in these barn like buildings. They would swing us back and forth on a rope and drop us at some point to see how well we rolled. The sweet spot to get dropped was in the middle of the swing closer to the ground. Where we actually got dropped seemed to depend on what kind of day the instructor was having : )

In life we all eventually hit the ground at some point. One important skill is to be able to read the situation and to avoid it. But that is not always possible. The most vital skill is to be able to pick yourself up and continue on. At Benning all of the civilians used a phrase. Whether you were getting a taxi or picking up your boots from the “boot black” they would always say “Drive On Airborne.” In life it is important to keep driving on.

Take a lesson from bigfoot out in the trees. Stay on the move. Don’t let anything stop you. Keep rolling. You don’t have to believe in bigfoot. But you do have to believe in yourself.

Enjoy Your Saturday.

Poems

take a long look

28OCT25

the sky is the limit

have to be scrappy
or at least try
better to be happy
than to cry

extend your reach
write a love letter
you have to teach
yourself to do better

read the Book
try to skim it
take a long look
the sky is the limit

your soul annoint
with what you glean
it just might point
to the unseen

be more bold
full steam attack
let nothing hold
you and your dreams back

move like the breeze
that the angels blew
there thru the trees
like the bigfoot do

I hope your sails are full of wind, hope and humor as you work and smirk your way thru this day. Happiness is only a smile away.

If you are struggling or your spirits are falling remember you have a parachute. That would be BIGFOOT. Sometimes goofy is just what you need. If that does not stop the descent pull the reserve. That would be (I’m guessing) DOGMAN. Pull the cord. LET HER RIP.

Like they used to say at Fort Benning and Fort Bragg.
