bigfoot & the mountains
17JUN26
& me
the mountains are calling
out my name
there is no stalling
they stake their claim
they light a flame
watch it burn
like a horse tamed
make my return
wear their bridle
wherever I roam
the pull is tidal
pulling me home
in the in between
here & there
the big & unseen
hear & stare
on we go
right or wrong
we both know
where we belong
Enjoy your Wednesday. Do not remain aloof from the goof.
The title to today’s poem is a nod to a famous bluegrass song by the Osborne Brothers in 1972. The line in the song is ” Ancient home of the Creek and the Cherokee and me.” The song’s title is Georgia Pineywoods. Most of you are probably more familiar with their song Rocky Top. But Georgia Pineywoods seems to dive deeper into the struggle to transition from “chickens cacklin’ out in the pen” to modern life.
Both Rocky Top and Georgia Piney Woods were written by Bourdleaux and Felice Bryant. They wrote many other hits. They had met when she was working as an elevator operator. They eloped 5 days after meeting. She recognized him immediately from a dream that she had when she was 8 years old. She said she had “looked for him forever.” The Everly Brothers hit All I Have To Do Is Dream is based on her experience.(Wikipedia)
